They have just had another earthquake, just before Christmas, but the fishing is still great. Don't let the media scare you with over exaggerated stories of woe, it is still a great place to visit, and an even better place to fish.
Tony Davys of Overland 4WD Rentals in Christchurch and his mate took the day off and went for a fish (almost Australian in attitude) and found them on the chew. Tony specialises in hiring vehicles for the visiting anglers, and personally fishing the spots that he directs his clients to.
All the best to our Christchurch friends for a safe and happy Christmas.

gday guys.
still the odd soapie jew around through the river and are willing to take any plastic you put in front of there face. (they arnt finiky)
Got the bigger one which went 60cm in the outer woods bays and the smaller one which went 50cm at make piece island.
you can also get some good flathead whilst chasing jewwies as there feeding habits are alot alike and the will both position there self down deep in the water level
the breaming has still been really good with some good fish up there in the thirtys getting around and with the warm weater they are willing to take surface baits which is good fun to watch.
cheers james

hey guys
went out the other day with my dad for a fish on the reef. when we got to the boat ramp it was nice and calm till we got to the bar when we had a look at the bar dad said we going back cause it is to rough out at the reef but turned out it wasnt.
when we pulled up at our first spot dad pulled up a 49cm maori cod and i got a stinking old catfish, after them fish the reef shut down so we moved on to an other reef and first cast there dad got a nice squire and i got another catfish. but we kept trying there and eventually a school of fish showed up, and turned out to be some nice snapper we pulled up abought 6 squire to about 1.5kg
then i got a nice redthroat emperor to 3kg and then pulled up half a snapper, then lost 5 nobbys to a 14ft plus shark which dad battled for abought 30mins. when the shark busted him off the fish shut down again, so we moved about 100m and came across a show of fish so dad said have a drop so i did, and as soon as my bait hit the botom i pulled up my pb pearly went 3.5kg
then we went back over it put the anchor out and pulled up scarlet sea pearch one after the other then i got my first cobia which was 45cm then the fish went off the bite. so after that we went and trolled round for some mackerel with a depp diving gold bomber. so i put it on chucked it out and i put the rod in the holder and fell asleep. then about 20mins later i wake up tp my reel screaming rod bending then 5mins later pull up a spotted mackerel about 4.5kg then went back in.
so just wanted to let you know whats been biting at tincanba

Another report
The fishing over the past 2 weeks has been tough at times but by putting in the hours and travelling many K's on the water some decent fish are still being boated. Some trips I am covering 30 plus kilometres, that's what I usually would travel out to the reef.
Highlight of the past 2 weeks was another incidental Barra capture estimated at 60cm whilst chasing Jacks in the top half of the river system. This fish was released with out taking it from the water due to the closed seasons in force until Feb 2012.
We have boated a few Jacks up to 42cm between the lakes but perseverance is needed at the moment, I'm only averaging 1 per session.
Some skinny water Bream have been providing plenty of fun throughout the river system on surface lures in the early hours of the morning.
The visuals alone are making for very entertaining sessions.
Tarpon are in abundance in the everglades and also sporadic between the lakes near Johns Landing. Small plastics or Blades have been the most productive way to target them.
Average Gt's and Big eye
Trevally are busting up occasionally near Tewantin and casting small hardbodies into the schools has been working a treat.
Let's hope the rain stirs things up and brings the fish on.
Regards,
Greg Carter

Rain will be good to get that dirty water line in the outer woods again and start that good trevally action!
gday guys
river has had a few fish latly. the bream fishing has been unreal around all the canals due to the warmer weather all the fish are sitting in the shallows and sight casting the fish with surface walkers or really lightly wieghted jigheads(hidden wieghts) is so much fun then watching a school of bream all fight for your lure and smack it of the surface. I highly recomend this as it is one of the funnest ways to visualy watch fish eat your lure.
JACKS
the amazing jack fishing that was about has slowed abit latly but there is still the odd one about down deep although mostly only feeding in the night and not in the day due to the large amount of boat traffic from christmas holidays(boat traffic sucks).
jacks have been teeming latley thoughout the noosa river system. the fish feed more activly in the night but you can still find the odd one in the day although they will be sitting in heavy structure. my mate hudson got a horse jack which went 58cm on 4lb, the other two are just pups at 30cm and 38cm but still good fun on the 4lb again. during the night u can land these fish on 4lb because they are feeding in the middle of the river system.

hey guys i am up at tincan bay at the moment. i have been out fishing the last few days and have been getting some good results like.
I got my first queen fish, flattys, bream, cod and moses pearch but when i took a mate out in one of the creeks the fish were going off but we only landed a cod because the fish were so big we couldnt get them to the boat.
the only one i got to the boat then pulled the hooks on it was a flatty about 53-54cm but also lost some cracker jack. and before i came up here i was at lake mcdonald cooroy with a friend and using live yabbys i pulled a 50cm bass. all the salt water fish were caught on gold bombers and live hering.

Fish, more often than not, live in dense structure. It makes sense, as that is where the food and protection is. Getting a lure into these places - and then out again - is one of the most challenging things that an angler try to do. Land your lure too far away and you don't catch fish - too close and you risk loosing your rig.
Thank goodness for weedless soft plastics, and these new hollow ones expose more hook when the fish strikes.
